The Best Burgers near Ala Moana

One of the best burgers on the island of Oahu

With the lack of big mainland burger chains like In-N-Out, Shake Shack, and Whataburger, many local residents find there are few options when they want a good burger. Even more so if you are a local resident in Metro Oahu. Luckily there’s a hidden spot in town and just .08 miles away from the Ala Moana Shopping Center! And it’s from a food truck! Yes a FOOD TRUCK! The infamous Chubbies Burgers located at 960 Auahi Street, Honolulu, HI 96814.

Personally, Chubbies Burgers is one of the best burgers on the island. Now take this with a grain of salt, you can either eat at some boring chain like McDonald or Burger King (both of which I really enjoy) or commute for half an hour plus to eat at Five Guys or Kua Aina. Chubbies may not be your traditional sit-in burger joint, but it gets the job done and is one of the tastiest burgers you’ll find in the Ala Moana/Kakaako neighborhood.

Order from the truck located in the Jamba Juice and Starbucks Parking lot on Auahi Street. Grab your buzzer and take a seat

The burgers are served to your liking and are truly mouth-watering. It is fresh, tasty, and very similar to a burger you would find on the mainland. The fries are also similar to what you would find at In-N-Out and the best part is that you don’t need to fly to the mainland!

My personal favorites are the slightly more fancy burgers. There is a more “normal” burger known as their 50’s burger. But if you’re going to eat here, you minus well get the fancier more meaty burger for just a couple bucks more. After all, you got to go BIG or go home.

All burgers use grass-fed local beef but where it gets interesting is the Ten Gallon and El Rey burgers. The Ten Gallon adds grilled onions, cheddar, BBQ sauce and BACON (everything is better with bacon). The El Rey gets fancy with pepper-jack cheese, avacado, garlic ranch sauce, and panko red onion rings!

If you aren’t taking out, you can eat in on the outdoor dining tables (exposed to the elements). I recommend coming during dusk on a nice day. They are open daily from 10:30am to 9:00pm and take credit cards. There’s also planning on rolling out a Vegetarian burger for those non meat eaters.

Long story short. Eat at Chubbies! Trust me, you’ll be glad you did!
